The diving around Provo is as good as you'll find anywhere. Although the best wall diving is a lot further from shore than you'll find in Grand Turk, there is a great variety of excellent sites here, including those at Northwest Point and at West Caicos, between sixty and ninety minutes by boat from Turtle Cove marina. There are also good shark and other dives to be found closer by off the island's north shore.

Reputable operators include the longstanding Provo Turtle Divers (phone649/946-4232, ), which also offers snorkeling tours and glass-bottomed boat rides, Caicos Adventures (phone649/941-3346, ), and Big Blue Unlimited (phone 649/946-5034, ), which also run whale-watching trips in February and March when humpback whales pass by and kayaking tours of the cays near Provo. Expect to pay around US$55/90/130 for a one-tank/two-tank/three-tank dive, US$60 for a night dive or $160 for a resort course which includes a two-tank dive. A four- or five-day open-water certification course, involving four or five two-tank dives, costs US$400-450.

The best places to snorkel on Provo close to shore are near the Coral Gardens hotel and at Smith's Reef, just east of the entrance to the Turtle Cove marina. At both places you'll find good reefs just offshore. Alternatively, ask the dive operators when they have a snorkeling trip going out (normally US$35 per person) or take one of the island/snorkeling trips offered by the outfits at Leeward Marina.

Other watersports are not well catered for, although the larger hotels all have good facilities for their guests. If you're not staying at one of those, your choice is likely to be rather limited, though you can rent windsurfers, hobie cats and kayaks from a rental outlet on the beach outside the Ocean Club on Grace Bay.

Fishing charters offer superb deep-sea fishing for marlin, wahoo, tuna and shark, difficult but exhilarating bonefishing in the shallow flats around the islands and bottom-fishing for grouper, snapper and parrotfish. For deep-sea fishing, try Sakitumi (phone 649/946-4065) or Gwendolyn (phone 649/946-5321) at Turtle Cove marina and expect to pay US$850/550 for a full/half-day's fishing for up to six people or US$150 if they'll take you on your own. For bonefishing or bottom-fishing, try Catch the Wave (phone 649/941-3047) or Silver Deep (phone 649/946-5612), both at Leeward Marina. In July there's a huge billfish tournament, with boats coming from around the world to hunt for the biggest blue marlin in the sea.
