Just a short drive along the road that runs west of the Conch Farm, Long Bay Hills is a developing residential area on the south side of the island with an impressive stretch of sand. Unfortunately, millions of conch shells washed in by the prevailing winds make access to decent swimming awkward, though you'll notice that some local house owners have tried to clear a path out to the ocean. Even then, however, the water is shallow for some way out and the sand more salty than you'll find on the north shore.

Follow signs to the hidden and rather dramatic Hole (always open; free), where the cap of the limestone rock has crumbled away - probably the result of wave action many centuries ago - leaving an eighty-foot drop down to a wide green pond. You can clamber around the edge - brave souls have been known to scramble down for a swim in the icy water - but beware there are no ropes or other protection, so make sure to keep small children well away.
