At the eastern end of the island, neat little Leeward Marina, overlooking the first of the Caicos Cays that stretch around to North Caicos, is home to most of the boat tour groups. You can just about make out the mangrove swamps of Mangrove Cay directly across the channel and, looking to your left, the sandy beaches of Little Water Cay where rock iguanas strut their stuff. If it's a calm day, it's worth renting a kayak from the Big Blue (US$20 per hour for a double; phone 649/946-5034) for an hour or two of cruising across to the cay and stopping on a deserted sandbank or beach to look for shells.

If you're feeling less energetic, there are a number of professional operators based at the marina who run excellent sailboat or speedboat trips to Little Water Cay to see the iguanas and to other nearby cays for shelling and picnics, normally stopping for some excellent snorkeling en route. Even more adventurous, and definitely worth trying, are the speedboat trips that go around all of the cays to Middle Caicos, where you can visit the Conch Bar caves.

The journey takes about ninety minutes each way, and you'll stop off to see the iguanas and to do some snorkeling.

The main speedboat operators are Silver Deep (phone 649/946-5612) and J&B Tours (phone 649/946-5047). Both run similar trips for similar prices; expect to pay around US$50 per person for the visit to Little Water Cay and US$120 for the trip to Middle Caicos. Big Blue (phone 649/946-5034) runs slightly pricier tours, with more emphasis on "eco-adventures", like visiting mangrove swamps or nature trails on Middle Caicos.

Sailing trips are run by Sail Provo (phone 649/946-4783) and Beluga (phone 649/946-4396) on comfortable catamarans or trimarans; as well as trips to the cays and snorkeling and shelling trips, both offer sunset cruises for around US$50 per person.
