There's not much sophistication to dining out in Grand Turk, but there are plenty of decent options and prices are reasonable. Nightlife is quiet, though there's usually some late-night music and dancing at Nookie Hill on Friday and Saturday and occasional mellow guitar music at Water's Edge. Calico Jacks Turks Head Hotel, Front St Tel 649/946-2466. Good food from an experimental and eclectic menu, covering everything from grilled lobster (US$25) and fish and chips (US$9) to Thai curry (US$12) and stone-crab claws (US$22). Sit outdoors under the trees at lunchtime but remember the bug spray. Regal Beagle Hospital Rd tel 649/946-2274. Shack-like restaurant dishing up tasty and inexpensive native lunches and dinners for US$4-10, such as conch fritters, stewed beef, goat curry and fried chicken.

Water's Edge Front St tel 649/946-1680. The best food on the island, served on a pier poking out into the gorgeous waters off the west coast, and usually busy at lunch and dinner. The well-tended bar is often lively, and the cracked conch, conch salad and grilled fish are a treat. Expect to pay US$20-25 for a three-course meal.
