Superb diving opportunities, many of them very close to shore, include fantastic deep and shallow dives at twenty sites along the five-mile wall that starts just off the west coast. You'll find magnificent coral formations, abundant reef life and plenty of shipwrecks.

The three operators are Blue Water Divers (phone 649/946-2432,), Oasis Divers (phone 649/946-1128,) and Sea Eye Diving (phone 649/946-1407,).

All offer PADI certification courses, and are happy to take snorkelers along if they're going to train at a shallow site. Snorkelers should also make for the old pier at South Dock, not the most attractive place to dive but teeming with fish, and try to get on a boat ride to deserted Gibbs Cay where the snorkeling is fantastic and where you'll bump into some friendly southern stingrays.
